About Us

  • The name bluume is a mash-up. Our three dogs are named Buddy, Lulu and Mika. It’s pronounced “bloom,” like the bloom of a flower.

  • It represents natural beauty and transition. As a flower is gentle and beautiful, we’re creating something both beautiful and gentle on the earth. We named the toy to be beautiful on the inside, and out.

  • Finally, you know that little moment when a dog’s eyes light up at playtime? Dogs are wonderfully emotional creatures. When they see us ready to play, their physical change is a bloom of happiness.

  • In past lives we designed skyscrapers and human spaces. There was happiness, but not always joy. We then found joy in breaking ugly things and replacing them with things that had special powers. Because they were beautiful.

  • Chad Yoshinobu is an architect. His original thought was the dog toys littering his house were pretty ugly, so we set out to change that.

  • Cal McAllister is a writer. He also thinks dog toys are ugly, and gets twitchy when things are unattractive and don’t need to be.
